O baiano é mais conservador, acho que por conta
da história, a gente tem uma origem mais forte do
que o resto do Brasil pois tudo começou na Bahia.
Aqui o Brasil foi descoberto e abrigamos a primeira
capital do país. Esta é uma parte muito antiga do
Brasil e com influência portuguesa muito marcante.
Temos essa coisa do colonial brasileiro, do barroco
muito presente ainda. E querendo ou não, a gente
nem se dá conta mas já tem isso enraizado no gosto
pessoal. Claro que há exceções. Mas as pessoas aqui
gostam muito do clássico e do moderno com clássico.
Predominantemente o público da minha loja gosta do
moderno, uma coisa mais clean e com uma influência
no clássico. Eu não faço a minha loja assim porque
gosto de ser irreverente. Eu até tento fazer, mas eu e
Clarissa gostamos da coisa mais brasileira e queremos
mostrar uma Bahia mais sofisticada.
Tell us about customers and the
market in Salvador, in terms of
furniture and decoration.
Bahians are more conservative, I think it has to
do with our history, we have a much stronger
cultural inheritance than the rest of Brazil, because
everything began in Bahia. It’s where Brazil was
discovered by the Portuguese and was the country’s
first capital city. This is a very old part of Brazil, with
a very strong Portuguese influence. We have a strong
colonial Brazilian bent, the idea of the Baroque is
still around. Like it or not, we may not even realize
it, but this is very deeply rooted in people’s personal
tastes. Of course, there are exceptions. But people
here really like things that are either classic, or a
mixture of modern and classic. The majority of my
store’s clientele likes modern furnishings, something
cleaner, with a certain degree of classic influence. I
don’t set up my store that way because I like being
irreverent. Sometimes I try that, but Clarissa and I
like things that are more Brazilian and we want to
show a more sophisticated Bahia.
