seguida me desgostei e fui fazer decoração.
Entramos
no ônibus, sentamos e ele começou a me mostrar
a pastinha. Era uma fábrica de sofá. Aí eu perguntei:
Eu posso vender? Ele deixou. Então eu comecei a
Compramos
só o showroom, sem estoque. Eu entrava no estande
hoje, temos duas lojas nesta rua. Atualmente eu sou
And how did Toque da
Casa begin in your life?
I married very young; the store belongs to my
husband and I. When we married he was studying
civil engineering and was already working for several
architects. When I took the entrance exam, I applied
for architecture, but I didn’t like it, so I decided to study
decoration. Until one day I met a furniture dealer at a
bus stop on my way to college. I told him I was in the
same field, specifically decoration, and he told me he was
a dealer for factories, serving stores etc. We got on the
bus, sat down and he started showing me his folder. It
was from a sofa factory. I asked him: Can I sell them? He
let me do it. So I began selling to the clients my husband
worked for in the plaster field. I sold an armchair here,
a sofa there, all through the catalog. Not long after that
we came up with the idea of having an 18 m
2
showroom,
still working with the plaster and finishing field. That
was when we opened the first Toque da Casa store in Rio
Vermelho neighborhood, which was a place we could
afford the rent. We went on to have a 40 m
2
store and
that was when I did my first trade show, in 1998. At the
time, it was a trade show in the south and I went to set up
a showroom for the new store. We bought the showroom
by itself, without inventory. I entered the stand and
bought a single chair, which was for the “chairdrome”.
The 40m
2
store was in the shopping mall and we began
to see even more architect clients, which we already had
plenty of due to the plaster business. A year later we
opened a store here on Alameda das Espatódeas, that
was at the end of 1999. We no longer dealt in finishes to
concentrate on the furniture market. At the time, this
street was still residential. Opening the store here was a
risk, and we did it without working capital, pure daring.
It worked out and we’re still here. Now we have two
stores on this street. Currently, I’m the store’s sales staff
manager, working more on the commercial end.
My husband works in the administrative department. We
started out with three employees and now we have nearly
40. This year is the 15
th
anniversary of Toque da Casa.
