O que “luxo” significa para o senhor?
Para mim, a palavra luxo é um pouco suspeita, porque
soa como ostentação e excesso, e eu não tenho qualquer
interesse por nenhum dos dois. Por outro lado, luxo no
sentido de algo especial, um objeto de valor incomum,
com função superior e alta qualidade, a isso dou muito
valor. Pode ser um relógio com um mecanismo sofisticado
ou instrumento de escrita superior como, por exemplo,
o Lápis Perfeito da Coleção Graf von Faber-Castell.
Qual o seu bem mais precioso?
Minha esposa e meus filhos, mas não sou proprietário
deles. Meus objetos mais valiosos são as obras
do período expressionista alemão e os trabalhos
de artistas contemporâneos que coleciono.
O que o senhor gostaria de possuir?
Um bem manejado vinhedo, e eu gostaria de ter tanto
sucesso com ele quanto meu primo hereditário Conde
Ferdinand zu Castell-Castell.
E qual é seu instrumento de escrita
predileto?
O Lápis Perfeito é, definitivamente, um dos meus
favoritos. E, particularmente, também gosto de escrever
com a caneta Ambition cujo corpo é feito com madeira
de coqueiro indiano. Tocar nesse material é muito
agradável, e a tinta se deposita suavemente e seca
com rapidez.
Quais são suas expectativas
ao entrarmos no ano do
250º aniversário da Faber-Castell?
Espero comemorar esse incomum aniversário
juntamente com meus colaboradores de todas as
unidades e escritórios do mundo. Para mim, é um
prazer e uma grande satisfação ter contribuído para esse
marco na história da empresa. Mas isso não é motivo
para que eu me faça de arrogante ou fique totalmente
satisfeito. Nesse dia e especialmente nesta época, é
muito importante para mim, como homem de negócios,
permanecer humano e me ater aos valores que Lothar
von Faber estabeleceu, pois esses valores são a força de
nossa empresa familiar. Para o futuro da Faber-Castell
desejo que ela se desenvolva ainda mais como uma
marca premium e permaneça firmemente fiel ao slogan
“fazendo coisas simples extraordinariamente bem”.
What does the word luxury mean to you?
For me, luxury is a bit suspect as a word, because
it reminds one of ostentation or excess, and I’m not
interested in either of those qualities. On the other
hand, luxury, in the sense of something special, of
uncommon value, with a purpose and high quality,
is something I value highly. It might be a watch with
a sophisticated mechanism or a superior writing
instrument. For example, take the Perfect Pencil
from the Graf von Faber-Castell collection.
What’s your most precious asset?
My wife and children, but I don’t own them.
My most precious objects are some works
of German expressionism and works by the
contemporary artists I collect.
What would you like to own?
A well run vineyard, and I would like to be as
successful with it as my hereditary cousin
Conde Ferdinand zu Castell-Castell.
And what is your favorite writing instrument?
The Perfect Pencil is definitively one of my favorites.
I also particularly enjoy writing with the Ambition
pen, which has a body made from Indian palm tree
wood. That material is very pleasant to the touch
and the ink flows freely and dries quickly.
What are your expectations as we enter
the year of Faber-Castell’s 250
th
anniversary?
I hope to commemorate this special anniversary
with my employees from all of the production units
and offices around the world. For me, it is a pleasure
and a huge satisfaction having contributed to
reaching this milestone in the company’s history.
But that is no reason to become arrogant or rest
on my haunches. On that day, and especially
during this period, it is very important for me,
as a businessman, to stay both human and true
to the values Lothar von Faber established, since
these values represent the strength of our family
business. For the future of Faber-Castell I hope to
further develop our image as a premium brand,
staying faithful to the slogan “doing simple things
extraordinarily well”.
